Memory Verse: Isaiah 60:1-3

Reading #1: Genesis 15:7-16

Questions: Why do you think it was so much easier for a childless old man to believe that he would have offspring as numerous as the stars than to believe he would actually possess the land he occupied?  What role does Abraham play in the covenant making process beginning in verse12?  What does the Lord warn will happen to Abraham’s descendants as “a dreadful and great darkness” falls upon him? 

Reading #2: Exodus 10:21-29

Questions: What plague falls on the land of Egypt where Abraham’s descendants are enslaved?  What conditions are the Israelites experiencing in their corner of the land?

Reading #3:Psalm 18

Questions: In verse 6, how is David’s situation similar to that of the enslaved Israelites?  In verse 9, what accompanied God as He came down to rescue David?

Reading #4: Luke 23:44-49

Questions: What condition fell over the land at the time of Jesus’ death on the cross?

Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:12

Reading #1: Genesis 15:1-6

Questions: What is Abraham’s complaint and whose fault does He say it is?  What impossible task does God assign to Abraham?  What impossible promise does God make to the childless old man?  What impossible thing was Abraham able to do that was then counted to him as righteousness?

Reading #2: Deuteronomy 1:9-18

Questions: How has God’s promise to Abraham been fulfilled?  What difficulty is Moses now facing?

Reading #3: Deuteronomy 28:58-63

Questions: What is the purpose behind “being careful to do all the words of the law?” What will the consequence be for their disobedience?  What emotional attribute does God claim in multiplying the Israelites like the stars of heaven?  What emotional attribute does God claim in reducing their number?  How does that make you feel?

Reading #4: 1 Chronicles 27:23,24

Questions: Why didn’t King David count those under 20 in the census and why was God so angry about it?

Memory Verse:  Psalm 134

Reading #1:  Genesis 14:17-24

Questions:  What 2 important titles does Melchizedek possess?  What 2 important titles do both Melchizedek and Abraham give to the Lord?

Reading #2:  Psalm 121 and 124

Questions:  How does the truth of Psalm 121:2 add assurance to the promise of verse 8?  Have you ever found yourself saying, “If it weren’t for the Lord…” like Psalm 124:1,2? What difference does it make that the helper you have actually made the heavens and the earth?

Reading #3:  Psalm 146

Questions: What distinctions does the Psalmist make between powerful people in verses 3 and 4 and a powerful God in verses 5-10?  How does the truth of verse 6 add assurance to the promises of verses 7-9?

Reading #4:  Matthew 11:25-30

Questions: How does Jesus’ reference to the Father as the Lord of heaven and earth add authority to His statements about who He chooses to hide Himself from and who He chooses to reveal Himself to?  How does the fact that Jesus has been given all things by the Father bring added assurance and comfort to verses 28-30?
