Memory Verse:  Psalm 113:3

Reading #1:  Exodus 17:8-16

Questions:  What do you think it meant to Joshua to have the written memorial of the blotting out of Amalek recited in his ears?  What about this story would inspire Moses to name the alter “The Lord Is My Banner?”

Reading #2:  Psalm 65

Questions: List all the reasons from this Psalm that praise is due to God.  According to verse 8, what awesome thing is happening every sunrise and sunset? 

Reading #3:  Isaiah 38:1-8

Questions:  If you received a message of impending death like Hezekiah did, how would you respond?  How does the sign of the sun turning back add authority to God’s promise of a longer life?  

Reading #4:  Malachi 1

Questions:  What evidence does God give for His love for Israel in verses 2 and 3?  How does God’s rejection of Esau prove His love for Jacob?  What is God asking of the priests in verse 6? Describe their response?  According to verse 11, when and where is God’s name going to be made great?

Amazing Grace  “When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.”

Week 12

Memory Verse: Psalm 84:11

Reading #1: Genesis 25:29-26:5

Questions:  What logical reasoning did Esau use for selling his birthright for a bowl of soup?What was going on in the land at the time God renews His covenant with Isaac?  What charges, commandments, statutes and laws do you think God was commending Abraham for having obeyed?

Reading #2: Exodus 16:1-21

Questions: What was going on in the wilderness of Sin with Abraham’s descendants? What were they wishing for in verse 3 and how does it remind you of Esau?  In verse 7, what does Moses tell the Israelites they will see in the morning?  What was on the ground in the morning and where had it come from? In verses 19-21, what happened to the left-over manna?

Reading #3: Isaiah 30:19-26

Questions:  What was going on in verse 19 and how does God respond?  What kind of bread does God give them this time?  Who will the people see?  In verse 26 what does God promise to do for them and what was the cause of their injury?

Reading #4: John 6:22-71

Questions:  What truth does Jesus confront these “seekers” with in verse 26? What food does He encourage them to “work for” instead, and how does Jesus say they’ll actually get it?

In verse 32 what evidence does Jesus offer them as a sign of His authority? What is promised to al those who “look on the Son and believe in Him?” After hearing these truths, what characteristic thing are the Jews once again doing in verses 41, 52 and 60?

Psalm 84B “For God the Lord is shield and sun; The Lord will grace and glory give.  No good will He withhold from one who does uprightly walk and live.”

Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed  “Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut His glories in, when God, the mighty Maker, died for man the creature’s sin.”

In Thanksgiving Let Us Praise Him “From the first bright light of morning, to the last warm glow of dusk; every breath we take is sacred, for it is God’s gift to us.”

Week 11

Memory Verse: Revelation 21:22,23

Reading #1: Genesis 15:7-20

Questions: What might be the significance of the “smoking fire pot and a flaming torch” passing between the animal halves?  What does the Lord promise the still-slumbering Abraham?

Reading #2: Exodus 12:1-28

Questions: What purpose did the blood of the lamb serve?  According to verse 11, in what manner were the Israelites to eat the Passover meal?  According to verse 23 what was the Lord going to do to the Egyptians? What were the Israelites to do when they entered the land promised to Abraham?

Reading #3: 1 Peter 1:12-25

Questions: Instead of being dressed for action like the Israelites, how does Peter encourage us to be prepared in verse 12?  According to verses 18-21, with what knowledge should we prepare our minds?  What does it do to your own mind to think that the plan of Christ, the Passover lamb, was put in place “before the foundation of the world?”

Reading #4: Revelation 5

Questions: Backing up to chapter 4, verses 9-11, what is the response of “the four living creatures and twenty four elders” to the Lamb, by who’s will all things were created and continue to exist? In verse 13, what is the response of every creature in heaven and on earth?  What is your response when you read a passage like this?
