Week 4

Memory Verse: Psalm 33:6

Reading #1: Genesis 1:14,15

Questions:  What purposes does God give for putting lights in the expanse of the heavens?  What do you think about those lights being “for signs” when there weren’t any people made yet to see them?  What does the statement “And it was so” say about the power of God’s Word?

Reading #2: Jeremiah 31:31-37

Questions: What happened to the old covenant?  What does God promise in the new covenant?  What does God’s ability to create the sun and moon and stars and keep them in order say about His ability to keep a covenant with His people?

Reading #3: Matthew 2:1-12

Questions: What is the arrival of the new covenant heralded by?  Whose arrival was being heralded?  By whom, for whom, and through whom was that star created?  When had the fixed order of the motion of that star been set in place?

Reading #4: Matthew 24:29-31/Luke 21:25-28

Questions: What will be happening in the sky when Jesus returns again?  What will be happening on earth?  How does Luke tell us to respond when we see these things take place?

Psalms and Hymns

Psalm 33A “Jehovah’s word the heavens made, and all the host of them arrayed His breath has caused to be.”

My Father’s World “This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the sphere.  This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas—His hand the wonders wrought.”

Week 3

Memory Verse: John 3:16-19

Reading #1: Genesis 1:3-5

Questions:  Considering the obviously antithetical natures of light and darkness, why do you think Moses makes the point that “God separated the light from the darkness?”  What do you think the source of that light was?

Reading #2: Matthew 4:12-22

Questions: When Jesus begins His ministry, who or what does He claim to be?  What condition are the people in He is talking to and what does He tell them to do?  Why?

Reading #3: 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

Questions:  What examples does Paul use to illustrate the ways believers are to be separate from unbelievers?  What reasons does he give?  What is the ultimate goal of that separation?

Reading #4: 1 Peter 2:1-12

Questions: For what purpose did God call His people out of darkness into light?  What have God’s people received that distinguishes them from all other people?

Psalms and Hymns

Great Is Thy Faithfulness  “Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.”

All Creatures of Our God and King “All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing Alleluia, Alleluia!  Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise Him.”

Week 2

Memory Verse:  2 Corinthians 4:6

Reading #1Genesis 1:1-3

Questions: What words would you use to describe the kind of power that says “Let there be light,” and there’s light?  Why do you think Paul references that same power in our memory verse, 2 Cor. 4:6?

Reading #2 Psalm 68:32-35

Questions: What does it mean to “ascribe power” to someone?  What kind of description does David give of God, before reminding us that he’s talking about the same God who “gives power and strength to His people?”  How does that description affect the way you think of the power He gives you?

Reading #3John 1:1-18

Questions: If Jesus is the same Word of God that spoke the universe into existence, how does that change the way you view the written Word of God?  What does it say about our condition that even though Jesus made us, we don’t recognize Him as God?  What does our memory verse, 2 Cor. 4:6, say is necessary in order for us to believe Jesus is who He says He is?

Reading #4Hebrews 1:1-12

Questions:  If Genesis 1:1 answers the question, “Where did everything come from,” how does Hebrews 1:3 answer the question, “Who is Jesus?”

Psalms and Hymns

Psalm 68E“To Him that rides on heaven of heavens which He of old did found;  Lo, He sends out His voice, a voice in might that doth abound.”

How Great Thou Art  “O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.”
